Bad Moon Rising became soon very popular in Japan with three amazing Hard Rock albums that highlighted the exceptional talents of british vocalist Kal Swan and axeman Doug Aldrich. Both Swan and Aldrich came from the LA based band Lion, while bassist Ian Mayo and drummer Jackie Ramos (who joined after the first album was released) had played together in both Hericane Alice and Bangalore Choir. Prior to relocating from England to Los Angeles, Swan was the frontman of the NWOBHM band Tytan.

The self titled debut album, produced by Mack (Queen) was released in 1991 and sees such luminaries as former UFO guitar-god Michael Schenker and Robin McAuley together with ex-Quiet Riot and House Of Lords bassist Chuck Wright and ex House of Lords and Alice Cooper drummer Ken Mary. The record was never released officially in Europe, even if it immediately gathered the status of a cult album.

The band put in an extensive tour of Japan in the same year and were voted by readers of the influential ‘Burrn’ magazine as ‘Brightest new hope’ for the following year.

1993’s second album: ‘Blood’ featured the rhythm section of Wright and Mary as guests once more, even if introduced from the first time Mayo and Ramos as full time members. The band returned to Japan in October for a further run of dates, giving credit to their influences by including Bad Company’s ‘Movin’ On’, Thin Lizzy’s ‘Cowboy Song’ and Deep Puple’s ‘Highway Star’ in their set.

Slightly later, in 1994, Aldrich released the mainly instrumental ‘Highcentered’ solo album. Such was the band’s stature in Japan the guitarist put in a series of appearances to plug this solo effort.

For their third album the band opted for the BMR monicker and chose a heavier and more contemporary approach to the songwriting. This did not alienate them their fan base and the album was released in different versions in several countries (Japan, Korea, France, USA and rest of Europe). BMR also played for the first time in Europe including a support to Van Halen at the Zenith in Paris, upfront of Japanese gigs.

The band ceased to exist in 1998, with Aldrich starting a new band: Burning Rain. In January 2002 Aldrich, joined the ranks of Dio first and Whitesnake later on.

This compilation covers the entire recording from this amazing Hard Rock band and adds bonus tracks taken from the Japanese only Eps “One Night In Tokyo”, “Blood On The Streets” and from a bonus Ep added to the French edition of “Opium For The Masses”.

Don’t loose the opportunity to discover a massive band that deserved to be huge!
