Info:
Aleena
was born in 1968 on the West coast of Sweden. Her mother and father where both
music freaks, they had a band called The Friday band and they did all kinds of
that times popular songs. They played Crossby, Stills, Nash & Young, Mamas
&Tthe Papas, Beatles of course and many other wonderful groups and artists.
She remembers laying awake in her mothers bedroom listening to them singing in
harmonies and she loved it. Later she found their lyrix book and could sing all
of the songs. She grews up in the country side close to the ocean so she had the
opportunity to play in the forest and bike to the sea every hot summer day and
take a swim. She felt in love with music for real a beautiful summer day when
she was 12.
She was not allowed to sneak into her big brothers room when he wasn't at home
so of course that would be the first thing she did when he wasnt around. This
particular day she wents up to his record collection and pulled out a white
album with a nice picture on the front cover with lions and stuff, she laid it
on the record player and started it. When she heard Freddy Mercury sing 'Love Of
My Life', she felt in love with music and with Queen. Queen became her favorite
band and she never could get enough of them. Real star crush there! She also
founds out about some other really great bands through her brothers record
collection like 10 CC, TOTO, Chicago, Eagles, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
Her dad taught her to play 'Hotel California' when she was around 12 and she
wrotes a few songs then but it wasn't until later in her life she realized this
was the only thing I wanted to do. Sing and write songs to sing.
So, she started in 1994 to write song after song and got her first record deal
in 1995 with Eagle Records. They released a promotion single called 'Tankar'. It
played on Swedish radio for a while but she decided that she wanted to sing and
write in English. She signed a new record deal in 1998. It didn't result in a
album this time either but she gathered more experience in being a recording
artist and learned the ropes of this very specialized profession. She decided to
take a break from recording and concentrate on writing for a while and worked
together with a publisher to build up an international songwriter carreer. She
wrote the song 'Show Me Your Colours' together with the Norweigian writer/producer
David Eriksen and the song was recorded and released by the very popular English
pop-band S-Club Seven.
After this She continued to write and get songs recorded by different artists
and one fine day she wrote a song called 'Butt Naked' and she just knew this was
her song. She wrote it together with the Swedish writer/producer Tobbe
Pettersson and with this song she signed a new record deal with Lionheart
records. They decided to release it as her first single. They also decided to
send in one of her songs to the of the Swedish semifinal of the eurovision song
contest . The song they sent in was 'Better Believe It'. The song made it to the
contest and she performed it live on TV in the same arena she saw Queen play in
early 80s, quite an experience. She didnt win the competition but that was
allright, she is not a typical schlager artist and she don't want to be
one. She just LOVED to finally meet an audience, and this was her second Love of
my life .
After this she was invited to the Baltic song contest in Karlshamn where she
played with her lovely band The Street Stones . They won the contest with 'Better
Believe It' so that felt great! She can recommend anyone to visit this festival
next summer in week 29 because it is such a musical experience. The whole town
is singing and dancing and there are musicians from everywhere and carnivals
etc. Check out here future plans and gigs in her upcoming diary at www.aleena.se.
